Crop Update: Grapes out of Peru

It is expected to be a fruitful and very promising Peruvian grape season this year, but it’s still early days.

Northern Peru has already started their harvest on Red Globes in Week 27. This is three weeks ahead of when the Piura region started harvest last season. An early start to the season is good news for growers as it allows them to avoid heavy peak periods that create difficulties in processing and packing all of the fruit quickly enough. When these strong peak periods occur, it may impact the condition of the fruit. With the earlier start growers will be able to eliminate the big “crunch“ on their facilities that will allow for a longer, more manageable harvest curve this season.

Diving into exported numbers from last season, here’s a look at what is ahead for the 2020/21 season. It should be noted that these are very early days and we will provide updates continuously as this season develops further.
