Behind the Produce with Daniel Nash

Daniel works out of our offices in Lima and Ica, Peru, and assumes the hefty role of Market Analyst. His attention to detail is absolutely critical in our operations as he allocates materials, arranges customer needs, and monitors quality and packaging guidelines. He is a sales whiz, a customer-service connoisseur, and very well organized.

Let’s get to know Daniel a little more!

VG: Where are you located? Has this always been home or did you re-locate for work?
Daniel:I’m located in Lima city, the capital of Perú. But I go to our ranches and packing house at least once a week for a number of days, or every two weeks. It’s been my home city since I was born.

VG: Have you always been destined for produce? Where did your career start?
Daniel:Produce has always being present in my life and in my heart. My family had orchards in Villacuri many years ago, so I’d go and visit there many times a year. It is nice working in an area that you’ve been before and know well. The passion for my career came after I visited a ranch that made me re-think what I wanted to study. After this, I left economics and started studying Agribusiness.

VG: How long have you been with Vanguard?
Daniel:I have been with Vanguard for 1 year and a half.

VG: What has been a memorable moment for you during your time working for Vanguard?
Daniel:Mainly 2 things come quickly to my mind. Our growth and our team.  It’s amazing how much Vanguard Peru has grown in the last couple or years, all the land acquisitions that have been made, and investment in a state of the art packing house – the biggest in South America until now. This doesn’t just encourage me to complete my tasks and goals, but makes me proud of working for such a great company with such wonderful people. Our team in Peru and globally has efficient internal communications, and we all get along as a big family.

VG: Who’s day do you impact on a regular basis. Who hears from you the most?
Daniel:My day to day impact is mainly with our Vanguard Direct and Vanguard International Chile offices for comercial purposes. Secondly, my day to day communications are with our Operations team in Ica, Peru, planning and coordinating the needs for the upcoming season. I’ve had time to spend with both our teams at Asiafruit in Hong Kong and the PMA in Anaheim, conferences that bring our global teams together, and I’ve had very good times with all of them. Finally, with regards to our various suppliers, we are also in daily communications.

VG: What does your free time look like? Spending time with family, friends? Hobbies?
Daniel:I like spending time with my son, often doing sports. Mainly basketball and surfing. I enjoy reading articles on technology and agriculture.

VG: Do you have a favorite produce item? If so, how do you prefer to eat it? (Snack? Signature Recipe?)
Daniel:My favorite produce item is mango. I like it as fresh fruit, juice, ice cream, or any other presentation that it comes in. Peru has many mango varieties throughout the year, so we are able to find it all year around. A signature recipe or special dessert that I like is the Mango Bavarois.
