Fanny Robles is an Agro-Industrial Engineer with an MBA in International Management.  Fanny’s career in fresh produce has been keenly focused on packing operations, quality control, procurement, and sales.  She is well known in the fresh produce industry for her professionalism, warmth, and a work ethic grounded in integrity.  Fanny joined the Vanguard International team in May of 2021 and hit the ground running with many positive contributions starting day one!

VG: Has Peru always been home or did you re-locate there for work? 

Fanny: Perú is and will always be my home. I was born in Piura, in the north of Perú, well known for its warm weather, beautiful beaches, and great food. I studied at a school very close to my home where I earned my University degree. After completing my schooling, I had the wonderful experience of living in the United States for three years before returning to Perú to build my career.

During my professional experiences I have travelled to many different regions in Perú which has helped me gain the best possible understanding of the varying climates and weather conditions where agriculture and products grow. All these experiences culminated in joining the great team at Vanguard.

VG – El Perú siempre ha estado en casa o se mudó por trabajo?

Fanny: Perú ha sido y siempre será mi hogar. Yo nací en Piura al norte de Perú, es muy conocido por su cálido clima, lindas playas y la mejor comida. Estudié el colegio muy cerca de casa al igual que la universidad dónde obtuve mi título. Cuando termine la universidad tuve la gran experiencia de vivir en USA por tres años y regrese a Perú para construir mi carrera profesional

Durante mi experiencia profesional he viajado por diferentes ciudades en Perú logrando conocer mejor las zonas y condiciones climáticas donde se desarrolla nuestra agricultura y desarrollo de sus productos. Toda esta experiencia me trajo hoy aquí a pertenecer al gran equipo de Vanguard.

VG: Have you always been destined for produce? Where did your career start?

 Fanny: I grew up in the city and I wasn’t always connected to the farm. When I was a child, I thought I wanted to be a doctor. However, as a child during our family trips to the farm or a friend’s country homes, I saw all the different products Piura had and how fast different products could grow. That is the main reason I chose my career in the agriculture business.

I always thought that if you wanted to go further, you needed to know everything and have all the answers.  I started my career as a supervisor of a mango packing house in Tambogrande 14 years ago. It was there where my adventures began and my passion for the fruit business began. Seven years ago, I complemented my field and packing experience with my commercial experience. Now, in my role with Vanguard, I have the opportunity to put all my skills together and also get to grow my experience even further in the produce industry.

VG Siempre ha estado destinado a producir? ¿Dónde empezó tu carrera?

Fanny: Yo crecí en la ciudad y no siempre estuvo en contacto con el campo, cuando estaba pequeña pensaba ser doctora, pero también desde pequeña en los diferentes viajes de familia al campo o a las parcelas de los amigos, veía la gran diversidad de frutos que nuestra región producía y con los años hemos ido creciendo y variando estos productos, por eso decidí desarrollarme en el rubro de la agroindustria.

Siempre he creído que poder llegar lejos hay que conocer los procesos desde el inicio, y así empecé supervisando personal en una planta de mango en Tambogrande hace 14 años, y así empecé la aventura en las plantas de proceso y mi pasión por las frutas, como paltas, limones y desarrollando mucha más experiencia en la uva de mesa y sus diferentes variedades. Hace 7 años complemente toda la experiencia de terreno con la parte comercial de las frutas y en Vanguard tengo la oportunidad de volcar toda esta experiencia y además conocer más de frutas y sus mercados.

VG: What has been a memorable moment for you during your time working for Vanguard?  

Fanny: During the short time that I’ve been  at Vanguard I’ve had a great welcome from my co-workers in Chile, and our entire global team. Despite the circumstances of COVID-19, I feel part of a great family that cares about each other and the achievement of the entire team, not only professionally, but also personally. Every sale I finalize and new arrival of product is an important achievement, and I look forward to having many more as my responsibilities grow.

VG – Cuál ha sido un momento memorable para ti durante tu tiempo trabajando para Vanguard?

Fanny: Durante el corto tiempo que llevo en Vanguard he tenido una gran acogida por mis compañeros en Chile y el resto del equipo, a pesar de las circunstancias por la COVID 19 me siento en una gran familia donde nos preocupamos con el bienestar de todos y el logro de todo el equipo. Para mi en este corto tiempo cada venta cerrada acompañada de un buen arribo es un logro importante y espero tener muchas más conforme las responsabilidades vayan creciendo.

VG: Whose day do you impact on a regular basis? Who hears from you the most?

Fanny: Every decision we make generates an impact within the company. We always work to ensure that our decisions and actions make a positive impact. If a company is successful it is often thanks to the great people that are in the organization. Their commitments to fulfill goals, have clear communication, and clarity in processes will lead to success.

I’m located in Perú for now in Piura but in few months I’ll move to Ica to keep coordinated with all the teams that make up Vanguard International.

VG: En qué día impacta de forma habitual? ¿Quién escucha más de ti?

Fanny: Cada decisión que tomamos genera un impacto dentro de la compañía cada acción que realizamos tiene un impacto, y siempre debemos tratar de que nuestras decisiones y acciones generen impactos positivos, las empresas son buenas es gracias a las personas que las conforman y sus compromisos a cumplir sus objetivos, una buena comunicación y claridad en sus procesos ayudan mucho a lograrlo.

Yo me encuentro en Perú y por ahora en Piura pero en unos meses me estaré mudando a Ica, coordinamos con todo el equipo, el equipo de sud América en Chile en primera instancia y posteriormente con el equipo de Usa y los demás

VG: What does your free time look like? Spending time with family, friends? Hobbies?  

Fanny: I have a daughter named Ariana who is 6 years old. She is in charge of ensuring I have no free time during any moment that I’m not working! She is full of energy and likes to learn everything she can. She asks lots of questions, talks a lot, and loves everything from insects to puppies. Together, we have a lot of shared activities most of them at home like dancing, watching movies, and gardening.

I have a daily early routine of exercising that includes running, which I really enjoy. I also like to take small trips on the weekends to to the beach or visit a town close to the city with family. Once in a while I like to go out for drinks or coffee with a good friend.

VG: Cómo es tu tiempo libre? ¿Pasar tiempo con familiares, amigos? ¿Aficiones?

Fanny: Tengo una niña de 6 años se llama Ariana y ella se encarga de que no haya muchos tiempos libres para mami, ella está llena de energía y le gusta aprender, preguntar, conversar mucho, ama los animales no importa cuál sea, así que juntas compartimos muchas actividades dentro de casa jardinería, baile, cine en casa, bingos, etc o a veces al aire libre de manera controlada.

Tengo rutinas muy tempranas de ejercicios como correr lo cual disfruto mucho, me gusta hacer pequeños viajes a la playa o a diferentes zonas en familia y si todo es seguro compartir un café con alguna amiga.

 VG: Do you have a favorite produce item? If so, how do you prefer to eat it? (Snack? Signature Recipe?)

Fanny: To pick just one favorite fruit is too hard!  I love bananas, mangos, and watermelon (and of course our grapes). With the hot weather in Piura, a snack of fruit salad midmorning is very refreshing. I also like avocados in the fresh salads I make.

VG: Tiene un producto vegetal favorito? Si es así, ¿cómo prefiere comerlo? (¿Aperitivo? ¿Receta exclusiva?)

Fanny: Un producto favorito, es difícil escoger entre tantos, pero me encantan las bananas, el mango, la sandía entre otros y al ser todas frutas pues las prefiero así al natural, sobre todo por el clima de Piura, una ensalada de frutas a media mañana es muy saludable; también me encanta la palta y acompañada en ensaladas la disfruto mucho mejor.
